The keys of Niksic Music School formally handed ov
Stanislav Ćano Koprivica je rođen 1929. godine u Koprivicama, kod Nikšića.
The chairman of the board of the Cano Koprivica Foundation, Branko Bulajic, today formally handed over the keys of Niksic Music School to the mayor of the municipality, Nebojsa Radojicic. In this way the school for the elementary and secondary music education, covering an area of 1,600 m2 was symbolically given to the town of Niksic to take management of it from now on. The organization's founder, Nikola Koprivica, the son of Cano Koprivica, on this special occasion stated: “I am certain that this school will, along with its teachers, decisively influence the development of musically gifted children, who are present in large numbers in this town, as well as in the region. And why not, especially now, when future Mozarts or Rachmaninoffs have the best conditions in Europe for progress and development? I also hope that finally the time has come for Cano’s ideas to completely come to life and that many others in Montenegro will follow in our footsteps of making endowments; and as Cano used to say: "It is not important how much money you make, it is much more important to know what to do with it."
Also, the chairman of the foundation’s executive board, Branislav Bulajic, spoke to a large number of guests, among whom was a great number of ambassadors, government representatives, business partners and donors. He stated: “Cano is remembered as a great humanist and benefactor, for those he knew and those he did not. Humanism was his religion. He generously helped schools, universities, hospitals, sport and art societies, sportsmen and painters, musicians, authors, talented pupils and students, the sick, the poor. His heart was big and sensitive, and it told him what to do, and that it is never too late for a person to be good and to do good deeds. He used to say that charity is the only wealth which gets enlarged by division.
Major Radojicic pointed out in his speech that it was necessary for these humanitarian projects to multiply, so that this music school may serve as a role model for future generations: “I wish to express my gratitude to Mr. Nikola Koprivica in particular, for investing over €500 000 in this endowment. I hope that now the children of Niksic will have somewhere to come, and that they will use everything that this project has to offer, and also that there will be many more buildings of this sort in Montenegro.”
Apart from the eminent artists who performed, such as Neven Sobajic and Professor Predrag Jankovic from the music academy in Cetinje, the musical program of this assembly was marked by a performance by teachers from this school - Milica Jokovic and Bojana Vukovic, as well as Stefan Ceha, a pupil of this school, who was a winner of a scholarship for the year 2010/2011.
In the modern building of the music school, apart from the classrooms, offices, workshops for instrument repair, storerooms, changing rooms, a make-up room and café, there is also a concert hall with 249 seats, unique not only in Niksic but also in Montenegro, which was crowded with guests that day. Because of its technical characteristics and production possibilities, this hall will be used in the future, not just for the concerts of classical music, but also for performing plays, film projections, guest performances by recognized musicians and the organization of formal events that require top-quality equipment.
